Trick-or-treaters have spoken: The best Halloween candy is Kit-Kat bars, and Twizzlers are the worst.
Rounding out Midwood students’ list of favorites are Twix, Sour Patch Kids, and Reese’s Cups, an Argus poll found. Students’ other least favorite treats are Candy Corn, Tootsie Rolls, and Peppermint Patties.
This poll was sent out to students in October, leading up to Halloween. Of the 161 participants surveyed, most were juniors and seniors, and 65% were female. The Argus hoped not just to capture schoolwide opinion, but also to save future generations from making our nation’s worst Halloween candy mistakes.
Kit-Kat knocked out other choices for “best” candy, with 34% of students choosing it among their favorites.
Twix came in second by just one vote. Sour Patch Kids came third, making 29% of ballots, and Reese’s Cups landed in fourth with 27%. It seems like chocolate dominated the realm of candy this year.
“Left Twix are better,” said social studies teacher Mr. Nermin Cecunjanin. “It’s a totally different process than the right Twix. Everything’s different. I throw the right Twix out.”
Twizzlers were deemed to be one of the worst Halloween candies by 38% of students – yikes!
“Twizzlers are so bad,” said Sophia Shimansky ‘28. “It’s the consistency, the Red 40, and the taste – it’s too sweet.”
“It’s like chewing rubber,” said Khrystyna Orietska ‘27.
Candy Corn was the second worst, according to 32% of respondents, and Tootsie Rolls were the third worst, with 23% of votes. Peppermint Patties are bad too, but only enough for fourth place, with 20%.
Compared to the results of our poll five years ago, Kit-Kats held on to their crown while Sour Patch Kids were knocked out of their second place spot. The most foul treat to eat in 2021 was Candy Corn, while this year’s first-worst champ Twizzlers came in second that year.
