It’s that time of the year again! The annual club fair was held on October 8, featuring over 80 clubs with displays throughout the C-Gym, G-Gym, main lobby, and auditorium. Club members carefully placed their unique bulletin boards at their designated areas, enthusiastically welcoming everyone who stopped by.

There were several new clubs this year to go along with many returning favorites, including a wide range of art and science offerings such as the Balloon Twisting Club, Painting Club, and Aerospace Engineering Club. Sports teams such as Handball also joined in, offering something for everyone.

“The fair was hectic, but it was so fun,” said the school’s mayor, Zhiqi Li ’27. “Being able to offer more clubs for everyone is one of the main goals we try to achieve. Knowing that people’s passions are being satisfied makes me feel pride and accomplishment when it comes to our student government.”

“Clubs are a great way to get to know people, establish relationships, and explore your passions. That’ll create a solid foundation for you in high school,” Li added.

Victoria Ward ‘28, the president of K-pop Fandom, said the club was working on “generating new and interactive ideas and creating a safe space for everyone to enjoy.”

“On my social media manager’s digital camera, there were over 90 pictures of students smiling through our dedicated cutout board,” Ward said. “We also had a significant number of sign ups in our club Google classroom in the hours after the event.”

Ward’s is one of several music and dance-related clubs at Midwood, which also offers Jazz Band, Alternative Music Appreciation, Guitar Club, and more. Zhiying Lin ‘28, one of the secretaries of C-pop, explained to visitors how members practice routines and put on performances. “I'm looking forward to making memories with everyone,” she said.

Yanxin Chen ‘28, a student at the fair, said, “I liked how everyone was really hyped and the vibe was very good. It was a good experience for me because it gave me an opportunity to discover more things I would want to try.”

There are so many clubs to pick, but do busy students have enough time for them?

“Being able to balance clubs and other commitments gets easier because you’re doing things you actually like, so it motivates you a lot,” Li said. “It makes you want to create an impact and inspire others to do the same.”

“Definitely join clubs that you know you’d enjoy being in,” said Susan Zhang ‘27. “Many of Midwood’s clubs run on a bi-weekly schedule, so that helps ease students in.”

Although the fair may be over now, it’s just the beginning of many friendships, new opportunities, and fun experiences. If you’re curious about your after school options, look for the schedule of clubs on the first floor of the main building, or check Midwood’s website.
