Liam Perkins ‘27 dashed to second place on March 9 in the 600 Meter Run and third in the 300 Meter with times of 1:26.69 and 0:38.57 respectively, achieving a massive milestone in only his second year at Midwood.

Perkins’s performance in the Indoor Frosh/Soph Championship at the Armory Track has been one of the highlights of the Boys Track Team’s season. He said that the team’s approach to meets is to “just push through, just keep practicing, [and] keep it consistent with our coaches’ training.”

Aiden Jules ‘26 also placed first in the 1600 Meter Run with a time of 5:09.60 at the Spring Series #4-B at Thomas Jefferson High School on April 8.

Jules said, “Coach Cohen is serious. He always gives a blueprint; he knows what he’s doing. The team is focused on getting better.”

Yousef Abdelhakim ‘27, a member of the Track Team, said, “Me and Aiden just joined this year, so we’re already improving a lot.”

After racing through the indoor season during the winter, the runners are now in the heat of the outdoor campaign.

A positive mindset has been an important part of overcoming hurdles throughout the year. Denny Ting ‘25 said, “Our team could improve on our confidence at races as often we let the pressure get to us and don’t perform to the expectations that we hold for ourselves.”

Perkins said, “On days you don’t have practice, just keep in mind that you still want to win and you still want to do what it takes to become the best.”

The team still has a few more meets ahead of them, including the PSAL City Championship. Ting said, “We have worked through the hardest part of the season, which is the workouts, and now all that is left is simply a race to showcase everything we put in.”
